Summer Access to Cooke City
SUMMER TRAVEL PLEASE NOTE! We can be accessed from YNP via the North East Entrance. We can also be accessed via the Chief Joseph Highway 296 just outside of Cody, Wyoming. Occasionally a road closure will re-direct your route to the Elk Horn Lodge but as long as there is a road open no matter if it is a longer drive than you planned, we cannot refund your room reservation. We have a limited number of high occupancy rooms and cabins and turn many away, so please understand you will be charged for the room we guaranteed you.
Note: Beartooth Highway is "SCHEDULED" to be open Friday of Memorial Day Weekend until sometime in October. It is your responsibility to make sure it is OPEN or CLOSED. We will not make any refunds due to the Beartooth Highway 212 being closed. This is not the main route to Cooke City. It is only a Scenic Byway. It's your responsibility to make sure it is open before you decide to drive it. If the Beartooth Highway is closed, take this route from Red Lodge: Hwy 308 to 72 then 72 becomes 120 when you cross into Wyoming. Stay on Wyoming 120 until you turn right on to Hwy 296 (Chief Joseph). If you see a green sign that says Cody 16, you missed the right turn on the Chief Joseph.

Local Info

The Elkhorn Lodge motel and cabins is within 5 minutes of the northeast Yellowstone NP entrance I have stayed at the Elk Horn Lodge every May for over 20 years now in both Cabins 1 and 2 and the motel units. I am an avid outdoors person and enjoy watching wildlife in the nearby Lamar Valley in the northern part of Yellowstone National Park. The motel units are clean and are equipped with a coffee maker, mini-frig and microwave. The two cabins are fully furnished with small kitchens with everything you need to make stove-top meals. TV and internet are provided in both motel and cabin units. And there are no better hosts than owners Jeff and Lisa Ohlinger, who will go out of their way to see that you have everything you need to enjoy your Yellowstone wildlife experience. There are no better people or place to stay in Cooke City than the Elkhorn Lodge Motel and Cabins.
